Mission

The AOPA NZ Charitable Trust – “Think Aviation” exists to advance education, awareness, and access to careers in aviation. By building strong partnerships with industry, fostering community engagement, and providing targeted support, the Trust strengthens New Zealand’s aviation ecosystem and creates lasting opportunities.

Strategic Objectives

1. Awareness and Education in Aviation

  • Deliver and support programmes, internships, and scholarships that promote aviation careers.
  • Partner with schools, training organisations, and industry to inspire young people into general aviation.
  • Develop and distribute resources so the public understands aviation and its value to New Zealand.

2. Access to Aviation Careers

  • Provide targeted scholarships, grants, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Support initiatives that reduce barriers to training and participation in aviation.
  • Facilitate pathways from school to industry, including internships and industry placements.

3. Strong Relationships and Networks

  • Establish Friends of AOPA NZ who will act as Ambassadors for the Trust.
  • Build enduring partnerships with aviation businesses, training providers, and government.
  • Establish a donor engagement programme, supported by regular communication and reporting.
  • Encourage funding recipients to act as ambassadors for the Trust and for aviation.

4. Excellence in Governance

  • Uphold best-practice governance and compliance with New Zealand law.
  • Maintain robust financial controls and transparent reporting.
  • Establish a sustainable investment and fundraising strategy.
  • Implement annual independent financial review or audit.
